Wegovy claim eligibility for injured consumers

Wegovy

How Wegovy causes injuries

Wegovy is known generically as semaglutide. It’s manufactured by Novo Nordisk as a medication for weight management. It was approved by the US Food and Drugs Administration in June 2021 and it has since been a popular choice for people who want to lose weight. It’s administered with weekly subcutaneous injections in dosages of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg.

The medication works similarly to the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a naturally occurring hormone in the human body that helps control appetite and regulate insulin response. It helps with weight loss by slowing down digestion and reducing hunger.

The administration of Wegovy can cause nausea, diarrhea, dehydration, vomiting, dizziness or fainting, and eventually gastroparesis, which causes your stomach to empty itself at a slower pace.

A study presented during the Digestive Disease Week Conference in 2024 shows that GLP-1 agonists like Wegovy do increase the risk of gastroparesis. Unfortunately, there aren’t any treatments for gastroparesis.

Wegovy side effects that can lead to financial claims

The criteria for being able to file a claim are:

Wegovy settlements and litigation

On September 5, 2024, Juanita Gantt, a mom from Pennsylvania filed a lawsuit against Novo Nordisk. She was treated with Wegovy in 2023. In the same year, she was found unconscious on the floor by her husband. Doctors found that parts of her large intestine had died and needed to be removed. She also suffered a heart attack during the ordeal. She was close to death, to the point that health officials had already warned her family ahead of time.

Gantt and her legal team sued Novo Nordisk for failing to provide warning labels on Wegovy and Ozempic. The claim was refuted by Novo Nordisk and the company’s legal team said that they will “vigorously defend against these claims.”
