Depo-Provera - Meningioma Claims

Depo-Provera is a contraceptive injection by Pfizer. The medication contains medroxyprogesterone acetate, and medical providers administer it every three months. This medication is extensively used for birth control. However, a recent study showed it poses serious health risks.

In March 2024, the British Medical Journal published a landmark study. It found that women who used medroxyprogesterone acetate had a 5.6 times greater risk for developing meningioma. The same study found that nearly 74 million women used Depo-Provera.

Pfizer, founded in 1849, earned approximately $64 billion in 2024. They aimed to deliver "breakthroughs that change patients' lives." But, they failed to warn of brain tumor risks. They only noted a 17% chance of headaches as a side effect.

Serious health risks associated with Depo-Provera

The continuous use of Depo-Provera is linked to several serious conditions:

  • Risk of intracranial meningioma requiring surgical treatment
  • Development of pseudotumor cerebri
  • Loss of bone density
  • Blood clots.
  • Increased breast cancer risk

The product label warns of side effects, like irregular vaginal bleeding, weight gain, and abdominal pain. But, it failed to warn of risks.
