Round atelectasis, also known as folded lung, or Blesovsky syndrome, is a form of pulmonary collapse associated with pleural thickening that has been described mostly in asbestos-exposed workers. If you have been exposed to asbestos in the past, in either industrial or military settings, you are right to be concerned about your health.
It can take 20-50 years for asbestos-related diseases to develop, that’s why it’s so important to keep vigilant with your health, identify potential symptoms early, and talk to your doctor immediately about your history with asbestos. Round, spindle-, or wedge-shaped opacities with hazy, irregular borders are apparent on chest X-rays generally at least 10 years after the first exposure to asbestos. Veterans, factory workers, construction workers, electricians, insulators, railroad workers, shipyard workers, and other industrial workers typically have faced the greatest exposure and thus should take serious precautions.
Rounded atelectasis may coexist with lung cancer, which is why we strongly recommend you seek a second opinion, especially if you have a history of occupational exposure to asbestos.
With more than 30 years of experience in asbestos cases, our expert team will help you:
Family members of veterans or former industrial workers have an increased risk of experiencing harmful effects through what is known as secondary exposure. The tiny asbestos fibers became embedded in the workers' clothing, and when the wives did the laundry, they themselves were unwittingly inhaling asbestos fibers. We can also claim and successfully recover the compensation on behalf of family members who underwent secondary asbestos exposure and developed cancer.
